IMA Hartford Chapter - February 21, 2017 

Speaker: Joelle Murchison – AVP & Chief Diversity Officer, University of CT
Topic: “The Changing Face of Diversity and Inclusion”

Joelle A. Murchison is the Associate Vice President and Chief Diversity Officer at The University of Connecticut. Reporting directly to the president, Susan Herbst, and working with senior academic and administrative leaders, Joelle serves as the University’s main strategist responsible for guiding efforts to define, assess, and promote diversity, inclusion, and educational and employment opportunity. She leads the University’s Diversity Council and oversee efforts to review and assess the effectiveness of diversity and inclusion programs at UConn. She also works with University units that are responsible for equity and diversity programs supporting a campus environment that is free of discrimination, harassment, and retaliation. Additionally, Joelle develops programs and coordinates activities to recruit and retain faculty, students, and staff from diverse backgrounds.

Prior to joining UCONN, Joelle served as Vice President, Enterprise Diversity & Inclusion at The Travelers Companies, Inc. (Travelers) where in partnership with management, she developed the framework of the company’s diversity focus and led the execution of Travelers’ diversity strategy, which includes managing both internal and external strategic relationships in order to drive and enhance the organization’s culture and achieve its business objectives. A recipient of a number of awards, Joelle serves as a director/trustee on the boards of the Morgan State University Foundation, the Amistad Center for Art and Culture (Hartford, CT) and College Possible, a national nonprofit focused on college access. Joelle holds a bachelor’s degree in public policy and educational studies from Brown University, a master’s of education degree from Harvard University’s Graduate School of Education and a master’s of science degree in Communication Management from Syracuse University.

Directions to Indian Hill Country Club

From the EAST    I-84 West to Exit 39A to Rt. 9 South. Take Exit 29. Left at end of ramp. At the 1st light, take a right onto Fenn Rd. Go to the end and take a left at the light onto Rte. 175. At the 2nd light, take a right onto Maple Hill Ave. At the next light, take a left onto Robbins Ave. Then take the 1st left onto Golf St. Proceed to the end.

From the WEST    I-84 East to Exit 39A, to Rt. 9 South. Then follow From the EAST.

From I-91 SOUTH    After Hartford, follow the signs for Rte. 15 South. Rte. 15 becomes the Berlin Turnpike. Turn right (west) onto Rte. 287/Robbins Ave (at McDonalds). Go through 2 lights. Take the 3rd right onto Golf St. Proceed to the end.

From I-91 NORTH    Take Exit 21N (Rte. 9). Follow the signs to Exit 29. Take a right off the exit ramp onto Rte.175. At the 2nd light, take a right onto Maple Hill Ave. At the next light, take a left onto Robbins Ave. Take the 1st left onto Golf St. Proceed to the end.

Would you like IMA Hartford Chapter Representatives to visit your campus?
IMA Hartford Chapter representatives visited Westfield State University, University of Hartford, Quinnipiac, Goodwin Tech, Elms College, and University of New Haven in 2016. Targeting future management accounting students, the chapter representatives presented information about the Institute of Management Accountants and the professional certifications offered. We have other visits scheduled in 2017 to Bay Path and Post University.
